My world: Arvidsjaur

The tourism office. I passed it on my way home from buying some advent decorations and it looked so nice, embedded in snow and light like that. (They have a blog I really think you should visit to see beautiful photos from Lappland!)

Arvidsjaur is sooo beautiful right now! On Sunday there will be a Christmas market in town and I’m a bit sad that I won’t be able to go (since I will be out of town that weekend too). I’m sure it’s a very nice event.

Just a quick shot of the main street, Storgatan, as I was walking home tonight.

Oh, what beautiful photos. It looks like Christmas in November, here in Germany we are far away from winter, the wether is grey in grey with relativ warm temperatures. So I am a bit envious. By the way – I think it is a good idea to have the camera always be with you – go on.

~So wonderful to see the snow!
I love this shot! A magical shot of the Tourism Office- the way the light emits a warm glow upon the scenery, gives one a feeling of peace and serenity.
    ~Very beautiful.

The street scene is lovely. This shot gives me a sentimental feeling, a longing for, as I recall those long, dark, November evenings. We had to walk along the sides of the road because the sidewalks were buried under mounds of snow! As children we would climb up and walk along the top of the giant walls of snow, piled high along the roadways.

I remember winter’s snow would always begin falling in November, but ten years ago, all that started to change. Winter’s snow began falling later and later, until the past couple of years we don’t see a substantial, consistent, snow fall, until mid December! Some years it’s come after Christmas Day!

I believe some people rather like it that way, especially those who have immigrated from warmer climates, but I miss the dark snowy evenings.

Right now we have approximately 9 1/2 hours of daylight. The sun rises at 7:30 am and it sets around 5:00 pm. The snow use to brighten these dark times. Approximately ten years ago, lots of snow was quite typical for early November. At present, (late November) we have no snow on the ground! Most of the grass is still green beneath the fallen leaves. Children are growing up in a different Canadian winter than I knew and my children knew. It’s so different now.

Sadly, we rarely see substantial snowfalls at this time of the year. I live in northern, Ontario, Canada, where heavy snowfalls in November were normal! Things have changed but no one wants to talk about it.

The Canadian Government doesn’t give a damn it seems. I am ashamed of their in-action and their self-righteous indignation regarding immediate, meaningful, action against climate change and global warming. At such a critical time for the earth, Canadians have chosen the worst kind of leadership for our country – hopefully the people will come to their senses, it cannot be soon enough I fear. Enough of that! forgive me.

My husband has relatives in Norway and Sweden. We are considering selling everything and starting a new life over there. We shall see.

~Thank you for sharing your lovely winter
    with such beautiful photo’s. :)

Ulrika: That shot down the snowy street is really beautiful. It is great that you live in such a festive area of the world.

You have a cold and wintery world, but lovely just the same.

Snow already! Lucky you – beats the rainy grey weather we’re having here in Stockholm, although that can be pretty too!
